My Top 5 News Sources

Source #1:

The main source of information and news I get is either from my parents or my friends. My parents are very active in keeping me informed, whether it’s through sending messages, sharing videos, or calling me to talk. They’re always updating me on what's going on with my old high school, news from my hometown, and even the latest in politics. I appreciate these updates because they help me feel connected to my roots, even though I'm not physically there anymore.

My friends from home also keep me in the loop, particularly when it comes to updates about our high school classmates. They’ll send me random TikToks of places they’re interested in visiting or things they want to buy, and it’s fun to see what’s catching their attention. My friends at High Point University keep me updated about events they’re attending and activities happening on campus, which helps me feel involved in their lives despite being away. I truly value the relationships I have with both my family and friends, and I care deeply about their opinions and experiences. These connections mean a lot to me, as they help me stay grounded and aware of what’s going on in the world around me, both near and far.

The second source I get information from is Tiktok. While I’m fully aware that it’s probably not the most reliable news source, I find that it’s one of the easiest and most accessible ways to engage the younger audience with current issues in society. In today’s fast-paced world, many people, especially younger generations, turn to TikTok as a way to stay informed because of its quick and digestible format. The platform covers a wide range of topics—from celebrity gossip and influencer updates to brand promotions and even news outlets having their own accounts to share updates. I find this diversity of content particularly interesting because it gives me access to so many different types of news and perspectives in one place. Whether it’s a viral video about a social issue or a clip from a live news broadcast, I can get a broad sense of what's going on in the world, and from different angles.

The short videos are particularly effective at spreading important stories quickly and to a large audience. It’s fascinating how TikTok has become a tool for awareness, where someone can watch a 30-second video and walk away with enough information to spark a conversation or dive deeper into an issue. I also appreciate how creative and engaging the platform is, which makes it fun to browse. The variety of content available—from educational videos to entertainment to viral trends—keeps me coming back for more, and it’s amazing to see how information is shared and consumed in such a fast and engaging format. Overall, TikTok is a unique source for both staying informed and simply enjoying the multitude of perspectives it offers.

My third source of information comes from Instagram. Like TikTok, Instagram is a social media platform primarily known for posting photos and videos that showcase personal moments and experiences. However, it’s evolved into so much more than just a place to share pictures. Over the years, Instagram has become a hub for a wide variety of content, with politicians, influencers, brands, and companies all having their own accounts. These users often share updates that range from professional announcements to personal insights into their lives, which can be both informative and entertaining. I enjoy using Instagram because it allows me to follow a mix of people I know personally, as well as public figures I find interesting, all in one place. It’s a great way to stay up-to-date on the latest trends, from fashion and beauty to the entertainment industry.

One of my favorite aspects of Instagram is discovering updates on upcoming movies. Actors and filmmakers often post sneak peeks of their projects or behind-the-scenes glimpses that give fans an inside look into the creative process. This helps me stay excited about the entertainment world and gives me a sense of connection to the celebrities I follow. But it’s not just about entertainment—I also get news about social causes and world events through the posts and stories shared by influencers, non-profits, and news organizations. These posts often include calls to action, petitions to sign, or information about important issues that might not be highlighted in mainstream media.

In addition to being a source of information, Instagram also allows me to stay connected with people from all around the world. It’s amazing to be able to see photos and videos of friends, family, and acquaintances living their lives in different parts of the globe. Whether it’s a snapshot of someone’s vacation, a video of a family gathering, or a photo of a friend’s new art project, Instagram allows me to feel closer to the people in my life even if we’re far apart. I appreciate how Instagram has created a platform where personal stories and global news intersect, giving me a comprehensive and dynamic way to stay informed while keeping up with the people and topics that matter to me.

My fourth source of news is FoxNews. While I understand that this news station can sometimes be biased, I appreciate that, for the most part, they seem genuinely focused on spreading what they believe to be the truth. Like with any news outlet, I don't always agree with everything they say or how they present it, but I find value in the perspectives they provide. I am someone who tends to stay in the middle when it comes to my political views, so I like that Fox News offers a particular lens through which I can see and understand issues. It’s important to me to see a wide range of opinions, and sometimes, I find myself agreeing with the points they make, especially when they bring in experts and specialists from the political and governmental fields.

One of the things I appreciate about Fox News is that it often keeps me updated on key events happening in the United States, whether it's developments in politics, government policies, or issues that affect our daily lives. It's a way for me to stay informed about the major challenges our country is facing and to hear opinions from various voices on the matter. My parents also keep me up to date with anything they see on Fox News, which often sparks conversations in our household about the latest stories, debates, or developments. A particularly memorable moment came when my parents were watching a live broadcast of Donald Trump’s speech in Pennsylvania, and, out of nowhere, they witnessed something shocking: he was shot in real-time. It was an unbelievable moment, and it made me realize how powerful live news coverage can be, especially when you’re witnessing events unfold as they happen.

Even though I might not always agree with the way Fox News frames certain stories, I think it’s crucial to have access to different sources of information, especially when it comes to understanding political and social issues. Hearing a variety of viewpoints helps me form a more well-rounded understanding of current events, and I value the platform Fox News provides for showcasing those opinions.

Boston 25 News is another station I watch regularly to stay up-to-date on local happenings. I usually watch Boston 25 on my television at home, and it’s become one of my go-to sources for everything related to New England. Since I’m from just north of Boston, I’m a diehard New England sports fan, and I’m always looking out for the latest updates on the Celtics, Red Sox, Patriots, and Bruins. Being able to tune into Boston 25 gives me real-time coverage of games, scores, and analysis, which keeps me connected to my favorite teams, even from afar. Whether it’s a big win or a tough loss, I appreciate how the station provides thorough updates on all the local teams and their journeys through the seasons.

Aside from sports, one of the things I really enjoy about watching Boston 25 is the local coverage of events and news specific to the Boston area. I love keeping up with major happenings like the Boston Marathon, the Celtics’ championship parade, or various cultural festivals around the city. These events are such an important part of the New England identity, and Boston 25 does a great job of covering them in depth. It’s a great way to feel more connected to the community, even if I’m not always able to participate in person.

Another reason I trust Boston 25 is its weather coverage. Living in New England, we’re no strangers to unpredictable weather, and nor'easters are something we face quite often. These powerful storms can bring heavy snow, rain, and strong winds, making it essential to stay informed and prepared. Having a local news station that focuses on the specific weather patterns and potential threats in our area is incredibly helpful. Boston 25 often provides detailed updates on weather forecasts, storm warnings, and safety precautions, which is vital for helping us stay safe during extreme weather events. The station's commitment to keeping us informed and protected in these situations is something I truly appreciate.

In addition to all the local news, weather, and sports coverage, Boston 25 offers a sense of community. It’s a station that keeps me connected to everything I care about—sports, events, and safety—while also reminding me of the unique spirit of New England and all that it has to offer.
